ان المشهد العام (لسكوت فيتزجيرالد) في صناعة الفلم، امر معقد حقا. لهذا يعتبر اهتمامه بالنص البصري في السينما، رغبة جمالية للنص المقصود والمعنوي الذي يمكن ان يلقي الضوء على اهمية الاوصاف المكانية والبصرية حول المستوي اللغوي. يهدف هذا البحث الى تقديم رؤية جديدة لرواية، " رقيق هو الليل" (1934). تعتمد جدلية هذه المقالة على حقيقة ادراك (فيتزجيرالد)، ان الحيز السينمائي لا يضمن نجاح الفني للكاتب. ومع انه كان معتادا على الاستراتيجيات السينمائية في الوصف البصري، لإضافة المعنى والخيال لنصه الروائي باستعمال تفاصيل غير لغوية. ان المشهد السينمائي الى (ديك دايفر) يمثل المعركة الداخلية (لفيتزجيرالد) كفنان. وبكلمات اخرى، نريد هنا ان نبين ان التواصل السينمائي لشخصية ( ديك) يعكس اهتماما حقيقا للروائي (فيتزجيرالد) لفهم ما لا يمكن ان يدرك او ينص عليه بكل يسر. ان الرؤية السينمائية لشخصية ( ديك) تسمح له ان بجمع اجزاء مختلفة وهي تمثل خطوة اساسية لكل من( ديك) و (فيتزجيرالد)، لان هذه الاجزاء لها نفس الاصول في بنية اللاوعي لديهما.
