تعرضنا في هذا البحث بالدراسة والتحليل لمفهوم الحرية عند واحد من أهم الفلاسفة المعاصرين ، وهو الفيلسوف ( جون ديوي ) الذي قدم الى العالم رؤية مختلفة عنها . إذ أكد على فكرة الحرية الواقعية بعيداً عن اليوتوبيا، انسجاماً مع فلسفته البرجماتية الأداتية . فقد حاول المساهمة في تأهيل شخصية الفرد لتطوير المجتمع وبناء الدولة من خلال دعوته إلى تطبيق الحرية الملائمة للواقع المعاصر في نواحي الحياة جميعها ، وذلك بإيجاده الحلول الناجعة لمشكلة العلاقة بين حرية الفرد وحرية المجتمع.
