Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the level of Islamic culture among students of the History Department at the College of Basic Education and examine its relationship with their learning styles and academic achievement. To achieve this objective, the researcher formulated a number of null hypotheses and adopted the descriptive correlational approach. The research population consisted of 274 male and female students enrolled in the History Department, College of Basic Education, Al-Mustansiriyah University. A stratified random sampling technique was employed to select the research sample, which comprised 75 students, representing approximately 35% of the research population. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher developed an Islamic Culture Test consisting of 36 multiple-choice items distributed across nine major domains: the Holy Qur’an, the Prophetic Sunnah, the Biography of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), Islamic Heritage, Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh), Islamic History, Customs and Traditions, the Arabic Language, and Human Contributions and Experiences. The instrument demonstrated acceptable levels of validity, reliability, and objectivity. To assess students’ learning styles, the study employed the Kolb and McCarthy (2005) Learning Styles Inventory, as standardized for the Iraqi environment by Al-Ibrahimi (2012), owing to its sound psychometric properties and its suitability for the Iraqi educational context. Academic achievement was measured using the students’ first-semester cumulative grade point average (GPA) for the academic year 2025–2026. The findings revealed that Islamic culture and learning styles are significant variables influencing academic achievement. The results further indicated that students of the History Department possess a good level of Islamic culture, while the Assimilating Learning Style was the most prevalent among the study sample. In addition, the participants demonstrated a good level of academic achievement. The study also found positive statistically significant correlations between Islamic culture, learning styles, and academic achievement among students of the History Department at the College of Basic Education, Al-Mustansiriyah University.
