Aims & Scope

Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to the advancement and global dissemination of high-quality theoretical and applied research in the human and social science disciplines. The journal is published quarterly by the College of Education (Ibn Rushd) for Human Sciences, University of Baghdad, and serves a global readership of academics, researchers, educators, and policymakers.

Aims

The primary aim of the journal is to develop and enrich scientific thought by providing a premier academic platform for regional and international scholars to disseminate novel findings, diverse theoretical perspectives, and methodological advancements. The journal is committed to fostering cross-cultural academic dialogue and bridging the scholarly communities of the Arab world with the global research landscape.

Scope

The journal's scope encompasses a broad spectrum of disciplines within the human and social sciences. The journal specifically welcomes original submissions in the following disciplinary areas:

  • Educational Sciences and Learning Sciences: including curriculum development, educational psychology, teaching methodologies, and higher education policy
  • Psychology and Behavioral Sciences: including cognitive psychology, counselling psychology, social psychology, and developmental psychology
  • Arabic Language and Linguistics: including applied linguistics, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, and Arabic language education
  • Arabic Literature and Comparative Literature: including classical and contemporary Arabic literature, literary criticism, and cross-cultural literary studies
  • History and Historical Methodology: including Islamic history, Iraqi and Arab history, modern history, and historiographical methods
  • Geography and Human Geography: including urban geography, population studies, environmental geography, and geopolitical studies
  • Quranic Sciences and Quranic Studies: including Quranic exegesis (tafsir), Quranic linguistics, recitation sciences (tajwid and qira'at), and contemporary Quranic studies

Target Readership and Article Types

The journal serves a global audience of academics, researchers, educators, graduate students, and policymakers engaged with the human and social sciences. The following article types are accepted for consideration:

  • Original Research Articles: empirical studies, quantitative and qualitative investigations presenting new primary findings
  • Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses: comprehensive syntheses of existing literature following PRISMA 2020 standards
  • Theoretical and Conceptual Papers: critical engagement with theoretical frameworks and their advancement
  • Short Communications: concise reports of significant preliminary findings (up to 3,000 words)

All submitted manuscripts must demonstrate significant scholarly value, methodological rigour, and a meaningful contribution to the relevant discipline. The journal does not publish textbooks, theses, or conference proceedings.

This Aims & Scope statement was reviewed and approved by the Editorial Board in June 2026 and will be updated at least every three years.
